Due to the retirement of former SLO (Senior Lead Officer) Mike Braun, Philip Ruiz has been promoted and is the new SLO for the Mission Hills Area.
Ruiz has over 14 years with the LAPD and brings a wealth of experience to the SLO position. He has worked assignments at Northeast Patrol and Detective Divisions, the Crime Analysis Detail, Devonshire patrol, West Valley patrol, and for the last five years he has worked Mission Patrol Division.
Ruiz grew up in the San Fernando Valley and has a deep appreciation and vested interest in providing the highest level of service to the community where he was born and raised. His tenure as a SLO will be effective January 30, 2011.
Hello from Officer Philip Ruiz: (from the Mission Area Station’s December 2010 e-Newsletter)
Hello, my name is Officer Philip Ruiz. I have been the interim Senior Lead Officer for Basic Car 19A43 for the past several months, while Senior Lead Officer Mike Braun was out recovering from shoulder surgery. The good news is that Senior Lead Officer Mike Braun is currently back at Mission Station after recovering from his surgery. The bad news is that Officer Braun will only be back for a short period of time as he is scheduled to retire from the Los Angeles Police Department at the end of the month (November 2010). The Los Angeles Police Department, primarily Mission Area Police Station, will be losing one of its finest officers. Ofcr Braun has been a hard working and dedicated officer which the Department and entire Mission Area Community will surely miss. I knew when I first began filling in for Officer Braun, which I had some huge shoes to fill. I hope in these last several months, I have met your expectations and have been there for your needs just as Mike had been. Once again, I have been assigned the same cellular and office telephone numbers as Officer Braun had. If there is anything I can assist you with feel free to call. Both phone numbers are listed above. If there is an actual emergency or a crime in progress, remember not to call my office and cellular phone numbers. Call 911 only if there is an emergency or (877) ASK-LAPD / (877) 275-5273 (LAPD Dispatch Center) for non-emergencies.
Just a reminder to everyone, the telephone number to the Mission Station front desk is (818) 838-9800. You may call the station directly to speak with an on duty officer. The desk officer will be able to assist you with general information, telephonic crime reports, crime related advice, and quality of life concerns. Again, the Mission Area front desk telephone number is for general information only, please do not call for emergencies or for crimes in progress requiring immediate Police assistance.
