After months of soil removal, the next phase of work is now officially underway to establish Nuestra Huerta Mission Hills, a new urban farm and community gathering space in CD7! This transformative project is thanks to residents having a voice in how City dollars are spent.

With LA REPAIR funding that I fought to preserve, our community voted to invest in projects that address local needs, including gardens to green the community. I was proud to help advance the transformation of this 2.4 acre site in Mission Hills, which represents about a $1.4M community investment, helping transform what was once a long-troubled City-owned brownfield lot into a space where neighbors can gather, young people can learn, and families can access fresh, affordable food.

The farm will be developed and operated by Black Thumb Farm, a Valley-based nonprofit empowering young people through urban agriculture. It will feature a free, accessible people’s garden, a youth learning garden and programming space, a market garden offering affordable produce, and more!
